* QUALIFICATIONS *

FOR THE DESIGNATION AS A

CERTIFIED ANTI-TERRORISM SPECIALIST (CAS)

Qualifying as a Certified Anti-terrorism Specialist is not an easy endeavor. The Certified Anti-Terrorism Specialist (CAS) designation is limited to those who have proven experience and/or expertise in the field of terrorism detection, deterrence and/or response.

Certified Anti-terrorism Specialists are experts in detecting, deterring and/or responding to terrorist acts domestically or internationally. Whatever the profession, from law enforcement to fire to medical to military to government to corporations to rescue, a Certified Anti-terrorism Specialist is a recognized professional who is dedicated to combating terrorism. Once the individual has met the qualifying requirements of a CAS, as set forth by the International Society of Anti-terrorism Professionals and the Anti-terrorism Accreditation Board (ATAB), ATAB will grant the designation to the qualified professional.

DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS

Furthermore, the applicant must be sponsored by an existing CAS, be of good moral character, possess the minimum experience and/or educational requirements, pass or waiver the CAS exam, maintain continuing professional education credits, agree to abide by the ATAB * Code of Ethics * and by-laws and possess the minimum number of qualifying points.

Experience requirements:

A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in detecting, deterring and/or responding to terrorists’ acts is required to be certified as a CAS. However, collateral experience will be considered by ATAB for those professionals whose responsibilities are indirectly related to combating terrorism.

Qualifying experience:

Professionally employed publicly or privately to combat terrorism in the following fields:

Military, law enforcement, fire, rescue, medical, HazMat, EOD, and Security.

Educational requirements:

There are no specific requirements of post-secondary degree education, as many professionals acquire their education through experience. However, a BA/BS or advanced degrees will be considered by ATAB in lieu of qualifying experience in granting the CAS designation.

QUALIFYING POINTS

One hundred points are needed to qualify for waiver of the CAS exam and granting of the CAS designation. Qualifying points are awarded for experience, education and a combination thereof. Twenty points are awarded for each year of full-time employment in any of the previously designated fields. Forty points are awarded for each BA/BS degree, sixty points for each MA/MS degree and eighty points for each doctorate degree. Thirty points are awarded for each professional designation recognized by ATAB. Qualifying point submissions are subject to scrutiny by ATAB as to whether points qualify towards waiver of the exam and granting of the CAS designation. If qualifying points are not sufficient to waive the exam, a minimum score of 75% on the CAS exam is required to be considered by ATAB for granting of the CAS designation.

CAS DESIGNATION FEES

The application fee for the Certified Anti-terrorism Specialist designation will be $695 US for those who do not qualify for waiver of the CAS exam. For those who qualify for waiver of the CAS exam the application fee will be $495 US.
